The Magic Lantern was an early type of image projector, used in storytelling education. Versions of this device have been around since the 17th century. Countless painted scene slides were produced over the years; these slides here are likely from the second half of the 1800s.
Each features a scene painted on a glass circle, mounted in a solid wood frame. When held up to the light, you can see the scene, or when these were inserted into the lantern, the scene would be projected up on a wall.
I have never seen any of these before in the US! These could make really cute pieces of art, hung against a white background. Or hang in a window and allow the natural light to illuminate the scene.
Please note these are being sold separately. Each slide measures approximately 7" by 4".
