This lightweight quilt is full of primitive, cottage charm! Featuring the "Grandmother's Fan" pattern with hand-quilted stitching, it's a true work of art.
This quilt covers just about all the colors! The fan designs are composed of a variety of novelty prints and solids, including both pops of brighter, primary colors (red, yellow, and blue), and many other softer pastels. The sashing is white and it has a border of patterned fabric.
Included in the fabrics are a few true feed sacks, where you can still see the lettering! And on the backside, two areas of faded seed sack lettering can be spotted.
This quilt was likely made from whatever the quilter had on hand--a great example of the resourcefulness of a bygone era.
CONDITION
This quilt is in overall good condition for its age. It is very thin with no loft, a true summer-weight quilt. The quilting is hand-stitched, but I am not sure about the piecework.
When I found this quilt, it had several dark stains on the front. I stain-treated those spots and hand-washed the quilt, and now the stains are much more faint or not visible at all. One, more noticeable stain remains along the border (shown in photos).
After examining the top, I found 5 small tears in some of the lighter fabrics, and three spots where piecework is loose. One side of the quilt is frayed. There is also some general yellowing and some faded spots. On the backside of the quilt, there are a few places where pink fabric dye has bled a bit. There are also many loose threads. However there are no through and through holes, this quilt is fully intact.
The age of the quilt is unknown for certain, however I would estimate 1940's. It was found in Northwest Arkansas
