Before the Ball company became the dominant glass jar maker, there were a number of other companies that made jars using the patented method of John Mason. One such company was Mason Fruit Jar Company out of Philadelphia.

This design dates from 1885-1907, depending on which historical records you read.

The Mason Fruit Jar Co. was purchased by the Ball Company in 1909 and so later designs will say "Ball" added above "The Mason" as they reworked the acquired mold.

I have never seen another jar with this wording! If you love a truly unique find, this is for you :)

The jar measures slightly over 7" tall and is 4" in diameter at the base.

There is one small 1/2 inch surface crack on the backside of the jar.

Please note I am not an expert on mason jar dating and history, but have done a good bit of research online to find out the history of this jar, and am sharing the information as I have found it.
